2-bromoethanesulfonate(BES)has a similar structure to the specific coenzyme M in methanogens and is a specific methanogen inhibitor,which is widely used in the field of anaerobic biological treatment.At the same time,BES has a sulfonic acid group structure with the potential for reduction by sulfate-reducing bacteria(SRB).In this study,glucose was used as the culture substrate.The effect of BES inhibition on the acid production behavior of anaerobic system was investigated.The anaerobic desulfurization characteristics of BES by SRB were discussed,and the effect of BES on sulfate reduction system was analyzed.The high-throughput sequencing technology was used to further demonstrate the anaerobic desulfurization conversion pathway of BES from the perspective of micromolecular biology.Studies showed that BES inhibits methanogens significantly,and VFA of anaerobic acidification effluent accumulates significantly.Besides,BES has a significant inhibitory effect on the anaerobic acid production process.When the dosage of BES was 0.5 mM and 2.5 mM,the CODTVFA in anaerobic effluent increased from 180 mg/L to 324 mg/L and 608 mg/L,respectively,and the acidification rates of the two systems were decreased from 83%to 35%-40%and 55%-60%.BES did not change the fermentation type of anaerobic acid production system,both systems were propionic acid type fermentation.BES has a significant desulfurization reaction in the anaerobic system.At the same time,the sulfate promotes the anaerobic desulfurization of BES.When the SO42-concentration was 1000 mg/L,the anaerobic desulfurization efficiency of the two systems with BES dosages of 0.5 mM and 2.5 mM was increased from 37%and 28%to 65%and 50%,respectively,with 1 day of HRT.BES has a significant inhibitory effect on SRB.Under the condition of HRT of ld,the sulfate reduction rates in the two systems were reduced from 72%of BES to 65%and 40%,respectively.As the desulfurization reaction progresses,the inhibition of the sulfate reduction system by BES was gradually eliminated.When the HRT is 6d.the sulfate reduction rate increased to 90%.High-throughput sequencing indicate that BES triggerd an increase in the species and abundance of SRB flora.When the dosage of BES was 0.5 mM and 2.5 mM,the abundance of SRB in the two systems increased from 0.17%to 0.9%and 2.1 8%,respectively.The anaerobic desulfurization reaction of BES was demonstrated from the perspective of microorganisms.
