Since ancient times, clothing as a nation and even a country’s special culture has strongly influenced thecultural understanding and intercommunication between the East and the West.Lin Yutang once mentioned in "The Art of Life" : "The difference between Chinese and Western clothing philosophy is that the suit isintended to express the figure of the person, and the meaning of the dress is to cover it." The culture ofChinese clothing has been traditionally ethic since ancient times. The constraint of value is not on therealistic expression of the figure of the person, but on the expressiveness of its conception. The conceptof dressing in Chinese clothing is expressed in the intentional structure of its clothing style, pursuing adistinct line shape, emphasizing the isolated and wide-clothed cultural form combined with local curves. The western costumes are characterized by the beauty of individuality, the expansion of the beauty of thehuman body, the diversification of the costume culture, and the integration of the clothing elements ofeach country. In ancient China, the traditional costume culture was "wide-clothing culture".In the West, which emphasizes the romanticism of liberalism, there has also been a long and romantic experience of wideclothingculture. This paper first introduces the history and development process of the wide-clothingculture;and comprehensively compares and analyzes the wide-clothing culture of various dynasties in China.Secondly,it strengthens the understanding and performance of the wide-clothing culture on brands such asShanghai Beach and Issey Miyake. Finally, after summarizing the above analysis of the wide-clothingculture,the comprehensive evaluation of the development of modern clothing design is carried out.
