The effects of glass fiber on the mechanical and physical properties of Poplar scrimber were evaluated in this paper.The three main contents of the research are as following:The effects of density and forming structure of glass fiber on the mechanial properties of Poplar scrimber;The effects of density and adding rate of glass fiber on the dimensional stability of Poplar scrimber;The effects of density and glass fiber on the dynamic wettability of Poplar scrimber were also evaluated in the paper.The effects of two factors which are forming structure of glass fiber and density on the mechanical properties of Poplar scrimber were studied in the paper.The results indicate that the glass fiber can significantly increase the mechanical properties of Poplar scrimber.The variation of forming structure of glass fiber has significant influence on the mechanical properties of Poplar scrimber.Compared to the blank specimen(specimen without reinforced fiber added),the mechanical properties of single-layer glass fiber reinforced specimen showed a large increase.With the glass fiber added to 2 layer,the mechanical properties of specimen continued to increase,but the increasing trend slowed down,When the glass fiber added to 3 layer,the mechanical properties of specimen decreased comparing to the mechanical properties of the double-layer glass fiber reinforced specimen.With the density increased,the MOR,MOE and IT(impact toughness)showed an increasing tendency.With the density increased,the bonding strength of the surface between the glass fiber and Poplar increased and reach the highest at 0.7g/cm~3.With the density continued to increase,the bonding strength decreased.The density showed a significantly influence on the mechanical property enhancing efficiency of glass fiber.The study indicated that the mechanical property enhancing efficiency of glass fiber is better at low density(0.6g/cm~3,0.7g/cm~3)than at high density(0.8g/cm~3,0.9g/cm~3).According to the two-way ANOVA,the forming structure of glass fiber and density showed significant inluence on the MOR、MOE and IT of the Poplar scimber.The density and the forming glass fiber have no interactions found during the process of affecting the MOR and MOE.The density and the forming glass fiber have interactions found during the process of affecting the MOR and MOE.The effects of two factors which are forming structure of glass fiber and density on the dimensional stability of Poplar scrimber were studied in the paper.The thickness swelling,water absorption,linear expansion rate,the thickness swelling in air condition and linear expansion in air condition of the specimen were tested in the experiment.The results indicated that glass fiber can efficiently restrict the expansion of the scrimber and improve the dimensional stability of the scrimber.With the layers of glass fiber increased,the thickness swelling showed a decreasing trend.The stronger effects of glass fiber on restricting the 2h-thickness swelling than the24h-thickness swelling was observed.Along with the increasing of the mass fraction of glass fiber from 0%to 6%,the 2h-thickness swelling and 24h-thickness swelling showed a decreasing trend and reach the lowest at 6%.Along with the further increasing of the mass fraction,the 2h and 24h thickness swelling increased.With the layers of glass fiber and mass fraction of glass fiber increased,the water absorption showed a decreasing trend compared to the control group.Along with the increasing of the layers of glass fiber,the transverse linear expansion changed little while the longitudinal linear expansion showed a obvious reduction.Along with the increasing of the mass fraction,the longitudinal linear expansion decreased and the glass fiber had the best restrict effects at 4.5%and 6%of mass fraction.Along with the increasing of the layers of glass fiber,the thickness swelling in air condition and linear expansion in air condition showed a decreasing trend compared to the control group and the DGRS showed the best restrict effects on the expansion of materials.Along with the increasing of the mass fraction of glass fiber,the thickness swelling in air condition and linear expansion in air condition showed a decreasing trend and the glass fiber showed the best restrict effects on linear expansion in air condition at4.5%of mass fraction.The effects of two factors which is glass fiber and density on the surface dynamic wettability and lyophobic property of the Poplar scrimber were studied in the paper.Water and MDI were used as the working liquid.The dynamic contact angle model was used to fit the change of contact angle with time.The surface wettability and lyophobic property obtained from the fitting function are reflected by the rate of the spreading and penetration of the liquid on the surface.The study found that with the density increased,the surface dynamic wettability of Poplar scrimber was decreased and the lyophobic property was improved.Compared to the MDI,the spreading rate of liquid on the surface of Poplar scrimber is higher.By studying the wettability and lyophobic property of the two different surfaces,the result was found that the surface dynamic wettability of Poplar scrimber with glass fiber added was significantly decreased and the lyophobic property was significantly improved compared to the blank surface without glass fiber added.
