Rabdosia japonica var.glaucocalyx(Maxim.)Hara belongs to Labiatae,Isodon. It’s named“Suzi ye”in Chinese and grown at the forest and the grass. It is widely distributed in Northeast China, mostly in Henan,Shandong,Guangxi,Shaanxi,Anhui and other places. The Rabdosia japonica var.glaucocalyx(Maxim.)Hara is the herbaceous plant of water and soil conservation. Its aboveground part can be used as medicine, which has the functions of clearing away heat and detoxification, promoting blood circulation and reducing inflammation. In this paper, the advances in plant morphology, resource allocation, chemical composition, pharmacological action and quality control of Isodon were reviewed. The essential compounds are terpenoids and flavonoids, the compounds of diterpenoids have significant antitumor biological activities.Rabdosia japonica var.glaucocalyx(Maxim.)Hara roots collected in Huashan area of Shaanxi Province were studied. The chemical results of this compound were obtained by various chromatographic methods, such as silica gel,MCI CHP 20P and Sephadex LH-20.The structure of all compounds were established according to the spectral data including TLC,HPLC,UV,NMR(13C-NMR,1H-NMR)and physical and chemical properties. As following:β-sitosterol,stigmasterol,campestero,luteolin,apigenin,P-hydroxy-benzoicacid,β-daucosterol,cynaroside,apigenin-7-glucoside,ursolic acid, ursonic acid, oleanolic acid, quercetin, pedalitin, glaucocalyxin A,glaucocalyxin B,glaucocalyxin C,oridonin, kamebacetal A,reniformin A.The inhibitory activities ofα-glucosidase,tyrosinase and acetylcholinesterase were tested. The results showed that the flavonoids had better inhibition of tyrosinase activity, followed by acetylcholinesterase, and all compounds showed poor inhibition ofα-glucosidase activity. To explore the profiles of ten compounds in the root,a simple, accurate and rapid method was developed and validated using high-performance liquid chromatography with diode arraydetection(HPLC-DAD)for the quality analysis. The results showed that diterpenoidcompounds glaucocalyxin A and glaucocalyxin B are relatively high, the average contents were 36.72μg/g,11.54μg/g,respectively.The triterpene compounds content overall is low,the total content is less than one third of the terpenoids. The total content of the six terpenoids is 67.36μg/g.The linear relationship of each compound is good and the method have a good stability and repeatability.
