The clinical treatment of bone tumors usually brings about residual tumor cells and large bone defects after tumor removal surgery.Due to good biocompatibility, strong NIR absorbance, high photothermal conversion efficiency and photothermal stability, and excellent infrared thermal imaging performance, black TiO2 materials have been widely studied as an efficient photoabsorber for killing tumor cells. In consideration of the excellent advantages of black TiO2,it is a good idea to design and prepare a hydrogenated black TiO2 coating with tri-functions for combined photothermal and photodynamic therapy of bone tumor under the guidance of infrared thermal imaging and repairing the large bone defect caused from surgical resection of bone tumor. In this study, hydrogenated black TiO2(H-TiO2)coating with hierarchical micro/nano-topographies is firstly fabricated by induction suspension plasma spraying(ISPS).H-TiO2 coating with excellent and controllable photothermal and photodynamic effects effectively kills tumor cells under 808 nm NIR laser irradiation, whose hierarchical hybrid micro/nano-structured surface and Ti-OH can remarkably improve adhesion, proliferation, differentiation and osteogenic gene expressions of rat bone mesenchymal stem cells(rBMSCs).These results demonstrate that this study provides a promising strategy for the treatment of bone tumors.
