With the development of the times and technology, the improvement of the performance and quality of automobiles has led to an increase in the weight and fuel consumption of automobiles, pollution to the environment, and lightweighting of automotive materials can effectively solve these problems.Due to the shortcomings and limitations of traditional materials, lightweight and high-strength carbon fiber composite materials have become the focus of research.Sheet Molding Compound(SMC)is a composite material obtained by hot press forming a prepreg composed of a thermosetting resin and carbon fiber. This composite material has a high degree of automation and can be used for forming complex parts. Therefore,SMC has a wide range of applications in the automotive field, and little research has been done on the process performance of chopped carbon fiber reinforced vinyl ester resin sheet molding compound(CF-SMC).In this paper,Moldflow numerical simulation and experiment are used to change the fiber orientation and warpage of CF-SMC composites, which provides theoretical support for the further application of CF-SMC composites in automotive lightweighting. In order to improve the interfacial bonding strength between carbon fiber and vinyl ester resin, the acrylamide grafting method, acrylamide "migration method",and sizing agent method were used to modify the interface of carbon fiber. Finally, the upper agent method was found to effectively improve the interface.Combine performance.Based on Moldflow’s model of CF-SMC hot press forming process, the effects of different process parameters on fiber orientation and warpage of CF-SMC composites were calculated and analyzed. The fiber length does not affect the fiber orientation in the composite, but the warpage of the composite decreases with the increase of fiber length;the increase of fiber content will reduce the orientation and warpage of the composite;the molding pressure on the fiber orientation of the composite There is no significant influence, but when the pressure is too large, the fiber orientation fluctuates, which causes the warpage to change with the fiber orientation;the increase of the molding temperature causes the fiber orientation to decrease, and at the same time, the warpage of the composite material is also lowered; The pressing time has no significant effect on the fiber orientation and warpage of the composite, and is not an important factor. The process parameters were optimized by orthogonal test, and the optimal process plan was determined to have a volume fraction of 50%,a molding temperature of 150 °C,a dwell time of 300 s,a molding pressure of 6 MPa,a fiber length of 12 mm,and anexperiment. The results were verified and the experimental results were in good agreement with the simulation results. It indicates that the established model can accurately predict the influence of different process conditions on the fiber orientation and warpage of composite materials, and can guide the application of composite materials in actual production.
