Objective:Our objective was to evaluate the impact of drinking Chinese green tea on gastrointestinal function recovery after laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy for gastric cancer. Methods:Patients were randomly allocated to receive drinking Chinese green tea(GT group)or potable water(PW group)on the first postoperative day.The primary endpoint was the gastrointestinal function recovery, and the secondary endpoint included the occurrence of postoperative complications and postoperative hospital stays. Results:During September 2017 to June 2018,69 patients were enrolled in this study. There were 32 patients in the GT group and 37 patients in the PW group.Compared with the PW group, the GT group showed significantly shorter time to first flatus(median of 45.725 h vs.72.67 h,P<0.000)and first defecation(median of 77.5 h vs.138.95 h,P<0.000).For postoperative hospital stays,it had significant difference between GT group and PW group(mean of 6.28 d vs.7.11 d,P<0.002).GT was noninferior to PW for postoperative complications(18.75%in the GT group vs.24.32%in the PW group,Χ~2=0.314,P=0.576).Conclusions:Patients in GT group after Laparoscopic Subtotal Gastrectomy had a quicker recovery of Gastrointestinal function and presented a shorter length of postoperative stay, but noninferior compared with PW group as for postoperative complications. It costs less time for GT group to get recovery of gastrointestinal function and present a shorter length of postoperative stay, but noninferior compared with PW group as for postoperative complications.
