"East and West Series" furniture are well-known for their unique connection structure of combining Chines and western style.With the constantly increasing consciousness of the energy conservation and environmental protection,designers take green material glued laminated bamboo as base material of "East and West Series" furniture,"Green Design" has became a new theme of "East and West Series" furniture in the future,in order to reduce the development cycle and cost during the new furniture research process,this paper apply finite element method to "East and West Series" furniture existing classic product--bamboo lung chair furniture to analyze it's structural strength and to optimize it's size for optimal design,to design a reasonable structure,less cost,high strength bamboo dragon chair furniture without change it's classical structures and appearance.Before starting the furniture optimal design,the paper's first purposes are collecting the datas of bamboo lung chair's datas of dimension,components' connection structure.The paper's second purposes are testing the mechanical properties of glued laminated bamboo material and keep records(elastic modulus,shear modulus,poisson's ratio,density,compressive ultimate strength).According to the "Load Using National Standard" to define the load and constraint specification on testing the strength of chair furniture,making the standard for the study of the paper using the finite element software to simulate and analyze formulated the bamboo lung chair furniture model,by using the finite element software ANSYS Workbench to analyze the bamboo lung chair furniture model's structure strength,ANSYS Workbench software point out the weak structure and over protection parts in bamboo lung chair furniture,then using the finite element ANSYS Workbench software to optimize the bamboo lung chair furniture on the weak structure for a stronger structure design,as well as on the over protection parts for a reducing optimal design.This paper had draw the following conclusions:1.The DMA(Dynamic Mechanical Analysis)machine and Electronic Universal Testing Machine were used to test and measure the elastic modulus,shear modulus,ultimate compressive strength and other mechanical properties of glued laminated bamboo material.According to the real situation when chair under pressure,during the ANSYS simulation test,the maximum value from the horizontal direction of glued laminated bamboo material is taken as the ultimate compressive strength value.2.By associatung the modeling software UG NX to the finite element ANSYS Workbench software to build a parametric model of the bamboo lung chair friniture,which can significantly improve the efficiency of finite element software pre-processing calculation.3.By using the finite element software ANSYS Workbench to analyze the whole and part structural strength of the bamboo lung chair parametric model.The test had found that in the test project of vertically downward loading of the armrest of the bamboo lung chair,the maximum stress value lie in the mortise of the chair leg and armrest connection fitting,where the stress value is over the ultimate compressive strength value of glued laminated bamboo material.In other test projects,it is found that the structure of beam and chair legs of bamboo lung chair both satisfied the strength demand,and the size of the structure is far beyond the size required by the strength under the limit load,so those parts' structure size can be optimized for material reduction design.This paper is focusing on optimizing the structure of these parts,as well as providing the theoretical supporting for optimization design.4.Parametric optimization design focus on the fittings,beams and legs of the bamboo lung chair furniture,by using the finite element software ANSYS Workbench to calculate the best size of the bamboo lung chair furniture's structure,so as to make the design of the parts' structure more scientific and reasonable.5.Finally,this paper designs a verification experiment to validate the reliability of using the finite element method into structure optimization design:By using the universal electronic testing machine to test the glued laminated bamboo material sample's strength in reality,while using the finite element software ANSYS Workbench to simulation test the same size of glued laminated bamboo material parametric model's strength,finally by compariseing those two different test methods' results of the relationship of displacement,stress and load curve,the paper draw a conclusion that the finite element method is reliable in guiding the optimization design on the furniture design field.
