Due to its unique thermal, electrical, optical and large-scale applications, the development of a new polymer class, that was organic conducting polymer(OCPs)at the end of 70s attracted a large number of material scients, physicians, and chemists.Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)(PEDOT)has been found to be one of the most thermally, electrically and optically stable OCPs up to date.In this work,PEDOT was doped with 5%HC1 at 0 V and have been electrochemically synthesized on oriented high-density polyethylene(HDPE)films modified indium-tin-oxide coated glass(ITO)electrodes in acetonitrile by cyclic voltammetry on successfully.Scanning electron microscopy,FTIR,Polarized optical microspectroscopy,Raman spectroscopy and UV-vis spectra have been used to characterize the thermal, electrical and optical properties of PEDOT on oriented PE and ITO substrate. Moreover, these PEDOT films exhibit anisotropic electrical conductivity. The value in the vertical to the drawing direction of HDPE films is 5.2 S·cm-1 which is higher than that of horizontal direction of 0.28 S·cm-1.Significant differences of the electrical conductivity between the two directions show that epitaxial electrochemical deposition is an effective method to obtain great performance conductive polymers.PEDOT has shown to have the most compact morphology, smooth surface.Electrochemical tests found PEDOT to be in good condition.PEDOT is a good contact candidate for all solid state ion-selective electrode(ASSISE)by combining this property with mixed electronic and Ionic conductivity.
