Under the background of more open economic development and increasingly close social links between regions, the measurement of the relationship between environment and trade cannot be separated from the influence of global value chains and spatial regions. At present, the research on industrial participation in the global value chain for environmental regulation stays at the macro level, and does not consider the environmental challenges and regional development imbalances faced by resource-intensive industries such as wood processing.Based on this, this article uses the micro-enterprise data of China Customs Import and Export Database and China Industrial Enterprise Database to study the impact of environmental regulations on the value-added export rate of wood processing industry at the provincial level, and to objectively grasp the degree of participation of the provincial wood processing industry in the global value chain.Using spatial econometric methods to accurately analyze the local and external impacts of domestic environmental regulations on the participation of provincial wood processing industries in the global value chain,it provides a theoretical basis for local governments and wood processing industries to formulate differentiated environmental regulation standards and industrial development strategies. The study found: First, from an overall perspective,China’s timber processing industry export value added rate has shown a clear upward trend throughout the observation period, and presents a trend of high east and low west.Second, from the perspective of the internal impact of environmental regulations on the participation of provincial wood processing industries in global value chains, the increased intensity of environmental regulations can effectively drive local wood processing industries to participate in global value chains, and even if environmental regulations affect local wood processing industries The promotion of development has a law of diminishing marginal effects, and this promotion will not be broken.Third, theexternal impact of environmental regulation on provincial wood processing industry’s participation in the global value chain is different from its internal effect. The external impact of informal environmental regulation on provincial wood processing industry’s participation in the global value chain does not exist."U-shaped" relationship. However, the external influence of the intensity of formal environmental regulations has a trend of "inverted U".Based on the research findings,it is proposed that government departments should moderately increase the intensity of domestic environmental regulations to achieve a virtuous cycle of environmental protection and the promotion of the industry’s global value chain;formulate more diversified policies that guide and encourage wood processing companies to follow environmental regulations, while further Expand the content of environmental regulation and improve the way of regulation;enterprises should seize the current opportunities of environmental protection initiatives and high-tech development in China, and attach importance to technological innovation;environment and governance should achieve regional differentiation to promote the improvement of environmental quality and industrial development in neighboring provinces.
