ObjectiveTo analyze the nutritional compositions of turnip, and to investigate the effects of turnip on the number of intestinal flora and the content of short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs)in fecal samples of mice,so as to provide scientific basis for guiding people to use it properly.MethodsThe crude protein, crude fat,and total acid were determined by national standards methods, while the crude fiber, total sugar, total flavonoid, and amino acids of samples were evaluated by acid-base method,phenol-sulfate method, spectrophotometry, and high performance liquid chromatography,respectively.40BalB/C male mice(18~22 g)were randomly divided into 4 groups, control group,low-dose group,middle-dose group, and high-dose group. The three dose groups were fed with turnip of different doses(1,2,4 g/kg·BW·d),while the control group was fed normally for 14 days. The mice were weighed and feces were collected for the determination of the number of intestinal flora and the content of short-chain fatty acids at 0,7,14 days. The number of intestinal flora and the content of SCFAs was detected by plate counting method and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS),and the results were analyzed by SPSS21.0.Results(1)The content of crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, the total acid, total polysaccharide, total flavonoid, total amino acid were 15.68 g/100 g,5.33 g/100 g,19.53 g/100 g,1.64 g/100 g,40.40%,0.2 g/100 g,and 14.08%.(2)Compared with different groups at the same time,on the 7th day,the number of Bifidobacterium in the middle and high dose group and Lactobacillus in the middle dose group were significantly higher than those in the control group, while the number of Enterococcus was significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05).On the 14 th day,the numbers of Bifidobacterium,Lactobacillus, and Enterobacteriaceae in every dose group were significantly higher than those in thecontrol group, while the numbers of Enterococcus and Clostridium perfringens were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).Compared with the same group at different time,on the 7th day,the numbers of Bifidobacterium in the middle and high dose groups, and Lactobacillus in the middle dose group were significantly higher than the 0th day, while the number of Enterococcus was significantly lower than the 0th day(P<0.05).On the 14 th day,the numbers of Bifidobacterium,Lactobacillus, and Enterobacteriaceae in every dose group were significantly higher than the 0th day, while the numbers of Enterococcus and Clostridium perfringens were significantly lower than the 0th day(P<0.05).(3)The Prebiotic index(PI)values in every dose group on the 14 th day were greater than that on the 7th day.The PI values in all dose groups on the 7th and 14 th day were higher than those in the control group, indicating that turnip had intestinal regulating effect.(4)Compared with different groups at the same time,on the 7th day,the contents of acetic acid in middle and high dose groups, butyric acid in the low and high dose groups, and isobutyric acid in the high dose group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).On the 14 th day,the intestinal acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid contents were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).Compared with the same group at different time,on the 7th and 14 th day,the intestinal acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid contents were significantly higher than the 0th day(P<0.05).And the contents of isobutyric acid in the medium and high dose groups on the 14 th day were were significantly higher than the 0th day(P<0.05).Conclusions(1)Turnip is rich in nutrients of protein, fat, crude fiber, acid, polysaccharides, flavonoids, and amino acids, which has high nutritional value.(2)Turnip can promote the proliferation of Bifidobacterium,Lactobacillus, and Enterobacteriaceae in the Intestine of mice, while inhibit the proliferation of Enterococcus and Clostridium perfringens, which has a regulatory effect on the intestinal flora.(3)Turnip can promote the production of SCFAs in the intestine of mice, andimprove the contents of SCFAs.
