Objective:To investigate the relationship between pancreatic fat content and type 2diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods:60 patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus were enrolled as diabetes group, and 64 non-diabetic healthy subjects were enrolled as control group. We measured the level of height, weight, body mass index(BMI),fasting plasma glucose(FPG),total cholesterol(TC),high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),triglyceride(TG),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c)and fasting insulin(FINS)of each subject. Then we calculated HOMA-IR and HOMA-beta steady-state model.Magnetic resonance imaging Dixon technique was used to scan the pancreas of each subject, then the pancreatic fat volume fractions(PFVF)was measured and calculated.T test were used to compare the data between the two groups, and the correlation analysis was performed by Pearson or Spearman test. Results:PFVF of diabetic group and control group were(9.6+4.1)%,(6.6+2.8)%,the difference was statistically significant(t=4.745,P<0.001).The correlation analysis showed that PFVF and BMI(r=0.386,P<0.001),FPG(r=0.358,P<0.001),TG(r=0.323,P=0.002)have low correlation, while PFVF was negatively correlated with HDL-C(r=-0.339,P=0.002).However,we don’t find any correlation between PFVF and TC,LDL-C,HbA1c,FINS,HOMA-IR and HOMA-beta steady-state model. Conclusion:Accumulation of fat content in pancreas may play an important role in the pathogenesis of T2DM...
