Objective: The aim of the current study is to detect the serum Bone morphogenetic protein-9(BMP-9)level in polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS)patients and healthy controls and to explore the change of BMP-9 in PCOS group and its association with PCOS.Methods: Thirty-four newly diagnosed PCOS women were recruited from the endocrine outpatient clinic in Hebei General Hospital from January 2016 to December 2017,and thirty age-matched controls were recruited from amongst our hospital staff at the same time. All the subjects performed the oral 75 g glucose tolerance test.Serum insulin levels were detected by electrochemiluminescence. The level of BMP-9 was detected by ELISA kit.Results:I.The comparison of the baseline clinical characteristicsAnalysis of two groups of the baseline clinical characteristics(Age,BMI,WHR,SBP,DBP).Age was no difference between the two groups; In PCOS group,BMI,WHR,SBP,and DBP were significantly higher than those in control group, the difference was statistically significant.2.Comparison of biochemical indicators in the two groups.2.1 Analysis of related indexes of lipid metabolism. The following lipid metabolism indicators(apoa1,apob,total cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol)were compared between the two groups.Between the two groups there were no statistical differences in TC,TG;while there were statistical differences in HDL-C,LDL-C,Apo A1 and Apo B.Apo B and LDL-C were significantly higher in PCOS group than those in the control group, while HLD-C and Apo A1 were significantly lower in PCOS group than those in the control group.2.2 Analysis of related indexes of glucose metabolism.Fasting insulin, insulin resistance index, fasting blood glucose,2-hour post-meal blood glucose were compared between the two groups. In the two groups FBG,2h PBG,FIns and HOMA-IR were statistically different. The FBG,2h PBG,HOMA-IR and FIns of the PCOS group were significantly higher than the control group.2.3 Comparison of other indicators.Other indicators including albumin, globulin, total protein, uric acid, luteinizing hormone,follicle-stimulating hormone and sex hormone binding globulin were compared between the two groups. In the two groups serum LH,SHBG,ALB,TP and UA were statistically different. There was no statistical difference in FSH and GLB between the two groups. In the PCOS group,LH,SHBG,ALB,TP and UA were significantly higher than the control group.3.Serum level of BMP-9 in the two groupsThe serum BMP-9 level of PCOS group was significantly lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P=0.023).4.Correlation of BMP-9 with glucose(insulin resistance),lipid metabolism in PCOS group.4.1 BMP-9 and insulin resistance. The results showed that BMP-9 was negatively correlated with FBG(P=0.035,r=-0.369),2h PBG(P<0.001,r=-0.699),HOMA-IR(P=0.022,r=-0.41).However,BMP-9 was not correlated with FIns.4.2 BMP-9 and lipid metabolism. The results showed that BMP-9 was not correlated with TC,TG,LDL-C,Apo A1 and Apo B.However,BMP-9 and HDL-C were positively correlated(P=0.042,r=0.36).5.The influence factors of serum BMP-9 levelThe influence factors of BMP-9 were analyzed.BMP-9 was considered as the independent facto. And multiple linear stepwise regression analysis was used to analyze the influence of BMI,WHR,FBG,2h PBG,HOMA-IR,TG,TC,HDL-C,LDL-C,Apo A1 and Apo B on the level of serum level BMP-9.The results indicated that 2h PBG was the important factors of serum level of BMP-9.Conclusion:1.Serum BMP-9 level was significantly reduced in PCOS patients.2.BMP-9 was positively correlated with HDL-C and SHBG and was negatively correlated with FBG,2h PBG and HOMA-IR.2h PBG was the important influence factor of BMP-9.3.BMP-9 level was associated with insulin resistance in PCOS.
