Objective: To analysis curative effect of Bernese periacetabular osteotomy for developmental dysplasia of hip in adolescents. Methods: A retrospective study,11 patients(15 hips)with hip dysplasia treated with Bernese periacetabular osteotomy from November 2011 to January 2017 in our hospital were followed up.9 cases(12 hips)with complete follow-up data were selected as the study subjects, all patients were female.Age of surgery was 11-20 years(average 15 years).Preoperative and final follow-up of patients underwent the pelvic X-ray radiographs and Harris hip score, the effect of periacetabular osteotomy was evaluated by observing the acetabular index angle(AI),the lateral center edge angle(C E),the Sharp angle, and the continuity of the Shenton’s line on the X-ray radiographs. Results : Follow-up time was 6-50 months(mean,11.7months).The pain symptoms of the patients were obviously improved at the final follow-up.After PAO the CE angle increased from(9.00±4.87)preoperatively to(29.50±5.80)at the final follow-up.The acetabular index angle decreased from(25.08±7.82)preoperatively to(9.92±3.17)at the final follow-up.The Sharp angle decreased from(48.50±7.26)preoperatively to(35.50±5.07)at the final follow-up.The continuity of Shenton’s line was increased from 0 cases preoperatively to 12 cases postoperatively. Conclusion: Bernese periacetabular osteotomies is operation method of choice for developmental dysplasia of hip in adolescent, the operation in improving the acetabulum coverage, optimize the hip rotation center, reduce the articular cartilage damage and prevent or delay the progress of the hip osteoarthritis is beneficial.Short-term follow-up results were satisfactory, but the efficacy of mid-long term follow-up results remain to farther research.
