Objective:To analyze the relationship of serum RDW and BODE index(body mass index, airflow obstruction, dyspnea, exercise capacity index)in patients with stable COPD.Methods:A comparative study was performed in 110 clinically stable COPD patients,43 with lung function stage Ⅰ,34 with lung function stage Ⅱ,24 with lung function stage Ⅲ and 9 with stage Ⅳ.There are 48 matched healthy individuals.Demographic features,BODE index factors, oxygen saturation were recorded.Measured RDW values at the time of the inclusion were evaluated. Results:The RDW[(13.00±1.11)%]with COPD patients were significantly higher than the matched healthy individuals[(14.88±1.63)%](P<0.05).The RDW with lung function stageⅣ[(15.3±4.18)%]were significantly higher than those COPD patients who were in stageⅢ[(14.1±1.82)%],stage Ⅱ[(13.6±3.03)%]and stage Ⅰ[(12.90±2.47)%](P<0.05).The RDW with lung function stage Ⅲ were significantly higher than those who were in stage Ⅱ and stage Ⅰ(P<0.05),there were no significantly differences between stage Ⅱ and stage Ⅰ(P>0.05);When the patients were grouped according to the laboratory upper limit of RDW,the FEV1[(1.33±1.12)L]、FEV1%[(53.20±0.45)%]、FEV1/FVC(51.29±0.60)、6MWD[(390.65±2.21)m]、oxygen saturation[(94.21±3.47)%]in the RDW>14.3%were significantly lower than those who were in the RDW>14.3%[(1.92±2.03)L、(66.03±0.96)%、(59.60±1.36)、(433.02±1.68)m、(97.00±3.63)%](P<0.05)but significantly higher in Smoking proportion(64.10%)and BODE index[3.05(2.69,3.41)]than the patients who were in the RDW>14.3%(52.11%、[2.16(1.31,3.01)])(P<0.05).The level of RDW were negatively related with 6MWD,FEV1%、FEV1/FYC、oxygen saturation(r=-0.169,P<0.001;r=-0.210,P<0.001;r=-0.296,P<0.001;r=-0.190,P<0.001).There were positive relation between RDW and age、CRP、BODE index(r=0.182,P<0.001;r=0.299,P<0.001;r=0.400,P<0.001).Conclusions:There is a good correlation between the RDW and BODE index,CRP in patients with COPD.It proves that RDW has a better predictive value in the severity of COPD and reflexive value in the inflammation.
