Objectives The relationship between cumulative resting heart rate(cum RHR)and stroker in the general population. Methods A total of 57927 participants who underwent the 2006-2007,2008-2009 and 2010-2011 physical examinations. We excluded 1652 participants with a history of stroke, myocardial infarction(MI),atrial fibrillation(AF)and use of beta-blockers drugs in 2006-2010 health examination. We also excluded 1540 participants without a new stroke,MI,AF and use of beta-blockers drugs in 2006-2010 follow-up period.A total of 46305 participants were included in the final analysis. The observation population was divided into four groups according to cum RHR:quartile 1(cum RHR < 267.66 beats /min * years);quartile 2(267.66≤cum RHR < 292.55 beats /min * years);quartile 3(292.55≤ cum RHR < 322.33 beats /min * years);quartile 4(cum RHR ≥322.3375 beats /min * years).Life table analysis was used to calculate the cumulative incidence of stroke, and the Log-rank test was used to compare differences cumulative incidence of stroke between groups. The relationship between cum RHR and stroke was estimated using Cox Proportional hazard analysis.Results(1)the incidences of stroke for the above quartiles were 84(0.7%),93(0.8%),128(1.1%),154(1.3%),Log-rank test showed that the differences cumulative incidence of stroke between groups was statistically significant(P < 0.05).(2)Cox proportional hazard regression analysis showed that compared with quartile 1,quartile 2、3、4 had an increased risk of stroke after adjusting for age, gender, baseline heart rate, systolic blood pressure(SBP),body mass index(BMI),fasting blood glucose(FBG),low density lipoprotein(LDL-C),physical exercise, smoking, drinking and other risk factors, the hazard ratio values(95% CI)were 1.01(0.75 1.37),1.26(0.94 1.68)and 0.94(1.03 1.90).Conclusions The cum RHR associated with stroke and it’s a independent risk factor of stroke.
