Under the action of gonadotrophin releasing hormone(Gn RH)recreated by the hypothalamus, hypophysis secrete human follicle stimulating hormone(FSH)and luteinizing hormone(LH),which stimulate normal follicular growth and ovulation synergistically, thereby forming the female’s ovulation cycle. The “two cell, two gonadotrophin doctrine” elaborated on the synergistic effect of FSH and LH.In the cycle of controlled ovarian stimulation(COS),which is the most important segment of IVF-ET,endogenous gonadotrophins were suppressed by gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist(Gn RH-a),then adding exogenous gonadotrophins to stimulate follicles to develop.Rcombinant follicle stimulating hormone(r-FSH)have been adopted widely, the physiological effect of LH have also been brought to the forefront.According to the “two cell, two gonadotrophin doctrine” and “LH therapy window” theory, the lack of moderate endogenous may result to unsatisfactory output.Exogenous luteinizing hormone provided a new option for adding exogenous LH during the cycle of COS.Some researches suggest that adding exogenous LH may help improve the number of retrieved oocytes, fertilized rate and clinical pregnancy rate, while some researchers put forward different views. The administration of exogenous luteinizing hormone among the assisted reproductive technology(ART)area has been a topic of discussion. In this review,we summarize the researches in recent years as for the mechanism and application of LH.
