Objective To investigate the safety and efficacy of continuous epidural labor analgesia with 0.1% ropivacaine combined with sufentanil. Methods: 122 primipara eligible for vaginal delivery between June 2016 to June 2017 at Chongqing People's Hospital and divided into two groups(Those who need no analgesia for vaginal delivery(control group)and those who needed epidural analgesia during labour(study group).VAS score, improved Bromage score,Apgar score, need for mediolateral episiotomy incision, instrumental delivery and emergency cesarean section were observed during the whole delivery period. Results There were no significant difference in the duration of labour,Apgar score, modified Bromage score between the two groups(P>0.05).The rate of mediolateral episiotomy and cesarean section in the labor analgesia group was significantly lower than that in the control group(P <0.05).Compared with the control group,VAS scores of the study group after 30 minutes of labor analgesia were(2.7±0.6),active period(3.1±0.3),second stage of labor(2.0±0.7),third stage of labor(1.8±0.7).They were significantly lower(P <0.05)than in the control group. Conclusion 0.1% ropivacaine combined with sufentanil for epidural labor analgesia suppresses maternal pain. The labor analgesia does not prolonged labor and no increase in instrumental delivery. The mediolateral episiotomy and Cesarean section rates were decreased. These results imply that epidural labour analgesia has high maternal satisfaction and no adverse neonatal outcomes.
