Objective: To observe and compare the efficacy of two different surgical methods, including high ligation of great saphenous vein with exfoliation of vein and high ligation of great saphenous vein with injection of foam sclerosing agent..Methods: In the past 3 years,we reviewed the 136 patients with varicose veins of great saphenous vein. All of them admitted to our department of vascular surgery.According to the number of affected limbs, they were divided into single leg group and double legs group. Each group was then divided into the traditional group(the control group)and the sclerotherapy group(the experimental group)according to the operative method.Among them, the traditional group was performed with high ligation of the great saphenous vein with venous exfoliation. The operation of the sclerotherapy group was the high ligation of the great saphenous vein with the injection of the sclerosing agent. The operation time, bleeding volume, hospitalization time, hospitalization expenses and incidence of complications of two groups of experimental group and control group were compared. Results: In the single leg group and the double legs group, the bleeding volume in the sclerotherapy group was lower than that in the traditional group, and the hospitalization time was shorter than the traditional group and the total hospitalization cost was lower than that in the traditional group. The difference of statistically is significant(P < 0.05).The operation time of the sclerotherapy group was longer than the traditional group, and the difference of statistically is significant(P < 0.05).And finally there was no significant difference in the recurrence rate between the traditional group and the sclerotherapy group both in the single leg group and the double legs group.(P > 0.05)Conclusion: The foam sclerotherapy is an effective way for the treatment of great saphenous vein(GSV).In general:(1)Less bleeding during the operation(2)Short time of hospitalization(3)Low cost of hospitalization(4)With cosmetic effects, the psychological burden of the patient is relieved. So it is more minimally invasive, simple and economical than traditional surgery. It’s a minimally invasive surgical treatment which is worthy of extensive development.
