Objective: To establish a rabbit model of chronic rhinosinusitis and observe the formation of bacterial biofilm in the model of maxillary sinus mucosa. Methods: Forty five New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into three groups: experimental group, incomplete maxillary sinus blockage and S.aureus inoculation group;control group, simple maxillary sinus ostium incomplete occlusion group;blank control group,Any deal. The nasal sinus, nasal endoscopy and histopathology were used to verify the rhinosinusitis model and the formation of bacterial biofilm was observed by scanning electron microscopy. Results: In the experimental group and the control group, the CT value of the sinuses and the density of the maxillary sinus in the operation side were increased;the purulent secretions were seen in the endoscopic nasal endoscopy and in the middle nasal passages;the histopathology, moderate and severe inflammatory infiltration of the maxillary sinus mucosa and goblet cells The rate of bacterial biofilm formation in the experimental group and the control group was 40% and 0% respectively. Conclusions: This experiment provided a simple and stable animal model of chronic sinusitis, and found the presence of bacterial biofilm on the maxillary sinus mucosa of the model. The model can be used as a means to study the efficacy and safety of drugs and surgical treatment for bacterial biofilm destruction and elimination. The role of bacterial biofilms in persistent chronic sinusitis remains to be further studied.
