Background: To investigate parameters which were related with mortality in patients hospitalized for acute heart failure(AHF).Methods: A total of 537 patients who had been hospitalized for AHF in cardiology department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University were enrolled into the registry from March 2012 to January 2017.The SBP-Na scores obtained at admission according to the levels of SBP and serum sodium were allocated a score of 2,1 or 0.The primary endpoint was all-cause mortality within 1 year.Results:(1)Seventy-four participants(13.8%)dropped out and 93(20.1%)passed away.(2)Linear regression analysis showed significant linear positive relationship between admission SBP and serum sodium(P< 0.001).(3)In ROC analyses, the combination of SBP and serum sodium(AUC=0.688,95% CI: 0.634-0.730)increased the AUC for 1-year mortality prediction [P=0.092 compared to SBP(AUC=0.656,95%CI: 0.611-0.700);P=0.035 compared to serum sodium(AUC=0.641,95%CI: 0.595-0.685)].(4)Higher SBP-Na score was associated with higher long-term mortality [7.5%(SBP-Na 0),20.8%(SBP-Na 1),43.1%(SBP-Na 2);P<0.001 for overall difference].(5)After multivariable adjustment,SBP-Na score was associated with 188.4% increase per score in the risk of 1-year mortality(HR per score increase 2.884;95%CI: 2.065-4.028;P<0.001).Conclusions:Significant correlation between admission SBP and serum sodium in patients with AHF were demonstrated. The combination use of SBP and serum sodium provided an improvement in predicting mortality in patients with AHF.
