The Efficacy Of Providence Brace And Boston Brace For The Treatment Of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

ObjectivesProvidence brace is a kind of brace used to treat mild to moderate adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.In our country,Boston brace is the most commonly used brace to treat adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.Compare to Boston brace,Providence brace only need to wear at night,and is easier to accept for most young patients,Providence brace is not widely used in Chinese and this probably due to its difficulty to made.This study was to study the clinical effect of Providence brace prospectively by compare to the Boston brace,To compare the efficacy of night-time brace and Boston brace for the treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.Material and Methods60 patients diagnosed AIS were randomly divided into two groups:night-time brace group and Boston brace group,30 patients respectively.Patients were treated with Providence brace in night-time brace group and treated with Boston brace all day long in Boston brace group.The patients were followed up every 3 months.The spinal anteroposterior and lateral position X-ray films and relevant indexes were evaluated.Investigate the wearing time of each group and treatment compliance of each group.ResultsNo statistically significant differences in initial correction rate,initial angle velocity,effective brace correction,final curve between two groups.The result of treatment of different curve type in the Providence group indicate that most effective in the lumbar curve and less effective in the thoracic cureve,The Boston group showed equal effect in different curve type.ConclusionsThe Providence brace showed equal effect with Boston brace for the treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.Providence bace is especially suitable for lumbar curve type.Providence brace showed better compliance compare to Boston brace and easier to accepted by adolescent patients.
