| Objective:Uveitis can be divided into infectious uveitis and noninfectious uveitis. In many cases,we can’ t find out the cause of the uveitis from clinical findings.Through pars plana vitrectomy(PPV),we can remove the opacity of the vitreous body, improve the visual acuity, and collect the sample of the vitreous body.In this study,we attempted to investigate diagnostic yield of vitrectomy in patients with uveitis of unknown cause. Methods:Retrospective analysis of 65 patients(67 eyes)with uveitis of unknown cause who underwent diagnostic vitrectomy in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from May,2012 to December,2016.Examinations of core vitreous samples consisted of microbial stains and culture, microbial antibody detection, cytokine measurement, cytology, flow cytometry and gene rearrangement. Results:Vitreous analysis was positive in 40 of 67 eyes(59.7%).Positive results indicated bacterial endophthalmitis in 20 of 40 cases(50.0%),lymphoma in 11 cases(27.5%),viral IgG increased significantly in 3 cases(7.5%),fungal endophthalmitis in 3 cases(7.5%),IgG of toxocara increased significantly in 2 cases(5.0%),IgG of Toxoplasma Gondii increased significantly in 1 case(2.5%).Conclusion:Diagnostic PPV has a high diagnostic yield in uveitis of unknown cause. We believe that the yield will be higher by improving the techniques of obtaining and analyzing the samples. |
