Objective:To explore the association of fasting plasma glucose with the prevalence and severity of coronary artery disease in population with no history of diabetes of different ethnic groups in Xinjiang. Methods:A total of 1500 cases with no history of diabetes who had undergone coronary angiography were included in this study,in which 587 cases were Han,502 cases Uyghur and 411 cases Kazakh.Coronary heart disease(CHD)was defined as ≥50% reduction of lumen diameter at least in one major coronary artery or its main branches as shown in the coronary angiography. The severity of coronary atherosclerosis was defined by the Gensini score. All the cases were categorized into four groups according to the level of fasting plasma glucose(FPG): <5.6mmol/L,5.6mmol/L≤FPG< 6.1mmol/L,6.1mmol/L ≤ FPG < 7.0mmol/L and FPG ≥ 7.0mmol/L.The laboratory indexes, clinical data and coronary angiography results were compared among various groups. The risk factors for the prevalence and severity of coronary artery disease(CAD)were analyzed. Results:Logistic Regression Analysis was performed in all groups,it is found that the FPG level are significantly correlated with CHD(OR=1.27,95%CI1.17~1.38,P<0.001);After the ethnic stratification,in the Han group, the FPG level are significantly correlated with CHD(OR=1.22,95%CI1.07~1.39,P=0.003);in the Uyghur group, the FPG level are significantly correlated with CHD(OR=1.21,95%CI1.08~1.37,P=0.002);in the Kazakh group, the FPG level are significantlycorrelated with CHD(OR=1.53,95%CI1.25~1.87,P < 0.001);Comparisons between groups: F=4.68,p=0.009,there is significant difference between the two groups;it is found that there is significant difference(p=0.007)between the Uyghur group and Kazakh group, and there are no significant differences between the other groups; In these three ethnic groups, the prevalence of severe CAD and Gensini score were increasing with increasing FPG levels, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.001).FPG and Gensini score was significantly correlated(P < 0.001).Conclusions:In the Han,Uyghur and Kazakh groups in Xinjiang, the FPG was an independent risk factor for the prevalence and severity of CHD,Where Uighurs in terms of coronary artery disease is more serious.
