| Objective:To investigate the clinical and laboratory characteristics of patients with megaloblastic anemia(MA)in order to further understand the characteristics of vitamin B12 deficiency, folic acid deficiency and both deficiency of MA.Methods:Data of 314 MA patients admitted to the first affiliated hospital of xinjiang medical university from January 2010 to January 2018 were retrospectively analyzed.General conditions including age and gender of the patients were recorded, and blood routine, biochemical, folic acid and vitamin B12 concentrations were detected.Statistical methods including Z test and?~2 test were used to compare the indicators of gender, age, hemoglobin(Hb),mean erythrocyte volume(MCV),lactate dehydrogenase(LDH),total bilirubin(TBIL)and indirect bilirubin(IBIL)in the three groups.Results:1.Gender(male/female):there was no significant difference between vitamin B 12 group 83/81 and folic acid group(26/32,P=0.363)and both groups(56/36,P=0.220).2.Age:there were statistically significant differences between the vitamin B 12 group(61.9 15.2 years old)and the folic acid group(48.9 19.3 years old,P<0.001)and the deficiency group(55.5±20.4 years old,P=0.010).3.Hb:vitamin B 12 group(68.1 18.4 g/L)was significantly different from folic acid group(79.9 19.4 g/L,P<0.001)and deficiency group(75.5±22.4 g/L,P=0.005).4.MCV:the vitamin B 12group(117.01±13.71 fl)was significantly different from the folic acid group(98.56 20.22 fl,P<0.001)and the vitamin B 12 group(108.46±16.97 fl,P<0.001).5.LDH:vitamin B 12 group[1184.70(497.53-2138.90)U/L]were significantly different from folic acid group[194.50(156.51~651.75)U/L,P<0.001]anddeficientgroup[721.10(213.50~1555.75)U/L,P=0.019].6.TBIL and IBIL:vitamin B 12 group(32.50±18.74 mmol/L,25.59±15.96 mmol/L)were significantly different from folic acid group(21.46±17.35 mmol/L,15.99±14.69 mmol/L,P<0.001).There was no significant difference between the two groups(27.17±14.42mmol/L,P=0.050,21.3216.41mmol/L,P=0.070).Conclusion:Vitamin B 12 deficiency was predominant in hospitalized MA patients, and was more severe in those with vitamin B 12 deficiency than in those with folic acid deficiency or both. |
