Background and Objective:Limb motor dysfunction is one of the common dysfunctions in stroke patients. The upper limb motor dysfunction after stroke seriously affects the patient’s daily living ability, and the paralysis state of the affected limb is one of the main factors affecting the recovery of upper limb function. It further affects the patient’s prognostic function and the quality of life, which imposes a serious burden on the patient’s family and the society as a whole. With the advancement of medical standards, the limb motor function of stroke patients has been significantly improved. However, further research and discussion are needed to improve the upper limb motor function and relieve spasticity of the patients. This study aims to investigate the clinical effect of low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on elbow flexor’s spasticity and motor function of upper limbs in stroke patients. And observe more about the basic mechanisms of motor dysfunction after stroke. Methods:Forty patients were randomly divided into a rTMS group and a control group with 20 in each. All of the patients in both groups received conventional treatment. In addition, the patients in the rTMS group were given repetitive magnetic stimulation over the contralesional motor cortex. Before and after treatment, the following data were acquired for each subject and compared between the rTMS and control group, including the Root mean square of the ipsilateral biceps and triceps recorded by surface electromyography, the motor evoked potentials, and the Modified Ashworth Scal,Fugl-Meyer Assessment of upper limbs and the modified Barthel Index. Results:After 4 weeks, the MAS,the RMS of the biceps and triceps, the amplitude of MEPs of the affected cortex, and the scores of FMA and MBI were all larger in the rTMS group than in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions:Low-frequency Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation can reduce elbow flexor spasticity after stroke and improve upper limb motor function.
