ObjectiveExplore the main features of evoked potentials(EPs)in Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders(NMOSD)and its differential diagnostic value between NMOSD and Multiple Sclerosis(MS).MethodsFrom October 2017 to October 2018,15 NMOSD patients as the observation group and 14 MS patients as the control group were selected in the Department of Neurology of Anhui Provincial Hospital. Both groups were excluded from diseases with peripheral nerve damage, such as connective tissue disease, nutritional metabolic disease, alcohol or drug poisoning, tumor, trauma, etc. In both groups, relevant diseases that could affect the evoked potential examination results, such as trigeminal neuralgia, eye trauma and craniocerebral surgery, were excluded. There was no significant difference in baseline data between the two groups, and the two groups were comparable. All participants were voluntarily informed in detail about the patient and their dependents. After obtaining the consent of the patient and the family, the participant confirmed the informed consent form. The clinical characteristics were recorded and the examination of visual evoked potentials(VEP),brainstem auditory evoked potentials(BAEP),short latency somatosensory evoked potentials(SLSEP),trigeminal somatosensory evoked potentials(TSEP)were underwent in both groups。Results(1)The average age in the NMOSD group was 48.2 years, and the mean age in the MS group was 47.1 years. There was no significant difference between the two groups. Both diseases are more common in women. The primary first symptoms of patients in the NMOSD and MS groups were visual impairment, limb movement, and sensory disturbance.Only patients in the NMOSD group developed facial sensory disturbances and nausea, vomiting, and hiccups.Only patients in the MS group had dysarthria, loss of hearing, bladder dysfunction, and abnormal mental behavior.(2)The VEP of NOMSD group showed more absence of P100(P<0.05),while MS group showed mainly extension of P100 latency(P<0.05).(3)The MS group with extended latency of BAEP were more than the NMOSD group(P<0.05).(4)There was no significant difference in the abnormal performance of SLSEP and TSEP between the two groups.ConclusionsVEP and BAEP have differential diagnostic value in NMOSD and MS,while SLSEP and TSEP have no significant differential diagnosis value in two diseases.
