| Objective By analyzing the correlation between frailty and depression in geriatric inpatients and evaluating different screening scales for frailty and depression,we could manage frailty in elder patients better.Method A retrospective analysis was performed on 65-year-old and above patients who were admitted to the geriatric ward of Peking union medical college hospital continuously between 2017 and 2019.The deliberating condition of patients was assessed by FRIED phenotype and FRAIL scale. The depression was assessed by Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS)and Short Form Geriatric Depression Scale(GDS-15)from the perspective of geriatric comprehensive assessment. Results Of the 438 elderly hospitalized patients included in the analysis,56.7%were female with a median age of 75 years(inter quartile range 68-79 years).FRIED phenotype and Frail scale were used to assess elderly patients, and the frailty elderly patients were 25.8%(female 69.9%,median age 77,inter quartile range 71-81 years)and 25.6%(female 68.8%?median age 77,inter quartile range of 72-81 years).Depression was assessed using the SDS and GDS-15,and the depression rates were 30.1%(female 64.4%,median age 75 years, inter quartile range 68-79 years)and 41.6%(female 62.6%,median age 75,inter quartile range 68-79 years).SDS and FRIED phenotype were selected,49.2%and 40.9%of the depressed patients were frailty and pre-frailty respectively. After controlling for confounders, the risk of depression in elderly inpatients with frailty and pre-frailty was higher than that in elderly patients without frailty, with OR values of 13.833(95%CI:6.962-27.487)and 4.272(95%CI:2.209-8.260),P<0.001.Conclusion The detection rates of frailty and depression were higher in geriatric inpatients. The self-evaluated Frail scale has a good consistency with FRIED phenotype, which is simple and worth promoting. There is a clear positive correlation between frailty and depression. The detection rate of frailty in patients with depression is significantly increased, and the risk of depression in patients with frailty is also significantly increased. For elderly inpatients, routine screening is recommended to evaluate frailty and depression, and holistic comprehensive management is adopted during intervention. |
