OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ultrasound ablation and radiofrequency ablation for renal denervation, and to provide a more reliable treatment strategy for interventional treatment of hypertension.METHODS: Ten small pigs were randomly divided into two groups.Radiofrequency and ultrasound were used to perform renal denervation ablation. The blood pressure changes of the two groups were compared by intracavitary ultrasound ablation and radiofrequency ablation. The effectiveness of the two types of ablation energy;the contrast of the two groups of animals before surgery, immediately after surgery and one month of angiography and OCT imaging, evaluation of renal artery vascular morphology, intima and medial imaging changes;by comparing the two groups The pathological changes of renal artery and surrounding tissues were performed one month after ablation in the animals. The degree of ablation of the denervation in the renal zone and the degree of damage to the renal artery wall and surrounding tissues were evaluated. The safety of the two ablation energies is then evaluated.RESULTS: The degree of blood pressure drop in both groups was not statistically significant.Radiofrequency group imaging and OCT images showed severe damage to the intima and medial layers of the renal arteries.Ultrasound group imaging and OCT images showed no significant changes in the renal artery wall compared with preoperative. The pathological results of the radiofrequency group and the ultrasound group all indicated extensive destruction of the nerve tissue, and the nerve destruction in the ultrasound group was more serious than that in the radiofrequency group.,Conclusion: Compared with RF energy, ultrasonic energy for RDN may have more significant effectiveness and safety.
