Study On The Status And Influencing Factors Of Elderly Abuse By Caregivers In Guangzhou

Objective:To investigate the current situation and influencing factors of elderly abusers in Guangzhou.Methods:The study was carried out by quantitative research and qualitative research.Part ? Quantitative researchA survey on 197 elderly caregivers in Guangzhou was conducted by means of questionnaires,which include caregivers abuse screen,psychological capital questionnaire,anxiety self-rating scale,flow call depression self-assessment,ZBI caregivers burden scale,the Simple Table Coping Style Scale,the Comprehension Social Support Scale,and the World Health Organization's Happiness Index.Part ? Qualitative researchIn-depth interviews,a semi-structured interview,were conducted with fifteen elderly caregivers.Results: 1.Cross-sectional survey results(1)Among the 197 aged caregivers,104(53%)had a tendency to abuse the elderly.The average score of the caregivers abused elderly scale was(2.73±1.74).(2)The average score of the Zarit Caregivers Burden Scale for the aged caregivers was(26.44±11.56),the average score of the Psychological Capital questionnaire-24 for the aged caregivers was(105.41±10.92),the average score for the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire of the aged caregivers was(27.9±8.40)points,the average score of the The Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale for the caregivers was(12.68±6.96),the average score of the self-rating anxiety scale for the aged caregivers was(40.51±8.60),the average score of the Perceived Social Support Scale for the aged caregivers was(64.72±10.31),the elderly caregivers WHO 's happiness index refers to the average score of the scale was(65.73±21.20).1.2 Analysis of the influencing factors of the abuse tendency of the aged caregivers(1)Socio-demographic factors.The scores of abuse tendencies of male caregivers were higher than those of female caregivers,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).(2)Social psychology factors.The scores of abuse tendency of the elderly caregivers with obvious depression were higher than those of the elderly caregivers with mild depression and no depression,the difference between the groups was statistically significant(P<0.01).High burden the group(ZBI ? 39 points)of the scores of the aged caregivers was higher than that of the low-burden group(ZBI < 39 points),the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P < 0.01),the happiness index score was < 50 points.The scores of the aged caregivers were higher than those of the old-age caregivers with a happiness index of ?50,and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.05).Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the results.The results showed that the nursing scores of the aged caregivers were negatively correlated with their psychological capital,self-efficacy and hope,and positively correlated with their negative coping and anxiety(P<0.05).Multivariate linear stepwise regression analysis showed that the burden of care,coping style and psychological capital were the influencing factors of the abuse tendency of the aged caregivers(P<0.05).2.Qualitative research results.Through repeated reading,sorting and analysis,five parts are developed.Topic 1.The old-age caregivers have a tendency to abuse,mainly based on negligence.Topic 2.Social support for elderly caregivers is low.Theme 3.The old-age caregivers are poor welfare,long working hours and less rest time.Topic 4.The elderly caregivers are mainly responsible for the life care of the disabled elderly,and the psychological and emotional care for the elderly is less.Topic 5.The elderly caregivers are suffering high pressure,lacking of ways to release pressure.Conclusions: 1.Cross-sectional survey of abusive tendencies and influencing factors of elderly caregivers in Guangzhou(1)The elderly caregivers in Guangzhou have a tendency to abuse the elderly.(2)The influencing factors of the elderly caregivers in Guangzhou area.The male has a higher tendency to abuse than the female;the care burden and coping style of the aged caregivers are the risk factors of the abuse tendency,the psychological capital of caregivers is a protective factor for its abusive tendencies.(3)The abuse tendency of the elderly caregivers exists,which needs to be highly valued by the administrators and the government of the nursing home.Targeted interventions should be taken,such as measures to reduce the burden of care for the aged caregivers,and intervention measures to improve the psychological capital of the aged caregivers.To reduce or prevent the occurrence of abuse by elderly caregivers and improve the quality of life of the elderly.2.Qualitative study on the abuse tendency and influencing factors of the elderly caregivers in Guangzhou(1)The old-age caregivers have a tendency to abuse the elderly,and they are mainly responsible for neglect.(2)The old-age caregivers have low social support and lack the support of family,friends,care recipients and nursing home management.(3)The old-age caregivers have poor welfare,long working hours and less rest time.(4)The old-age caregivers barely take care of the psychological and emotional aspects of the elderly.(5)The old-age caregivers have to bear the pressure from the elderly,the elderly and the nursing home administrators.However,there is no more time and ways to release the pressure.
