| Objective: To report the outcome of vitrectomy combined with internal limiting membrane peeling and scleral shortening for the treatment of pathological foveoschisis.Methods: A total of 13 eyes of 13 pathological myopia patients who were diagnosed as myopic foveoschisis during January 2018 to December 2018 in our department were collected.There no gender predominance(seven females and six males)and average age were(55.27±7.66).All of them received vitrectomy combined with internal limiting membrane peeling and scleral shortening procedure.The postoperative follow-up time was 6 to 12 months,nine months on average.Best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),axial length(AL),maximum foveal thickness(MxFT),mean retinal sensitivity of 12-degree and fixation rate of 2-degree and 4-degree fixation stability in microperimetry were compared.Results: At the last follow-up,the BCVA was significantly improved compared to the preoperative(P=0.004<0.01).The average axial length was shortened by 1.25±0.86mm(P=0.006<0.01).The MxFT was significantly decreased after surgery(P=0.000<0.01).The two eyes with macular hole were closed well at the last follow-up.Among the three eyes with retinal detachment,two eyes were attached after surgery;however,one eye was not attached until the last follow-up.The mean retinal sensitivity in the range of 12-degree of the 13 patients in the microperimetry were increased(P<0.0001).There were statistically significant differences in fixation rate and fixation stability between 2-degree and 4-degree(P=0.005<0.01,P=0.002<0.01).Conclusion: Vitrectomy combined with internal limiting membrane peeling and scleral shortening in the treatment of macular foveoschisis can significantly shorten the axial length of the eye,ameliorate the microstructure of retina,improve the BCVA,and its function to a certain extent improves.Microperimetry is a sensitive tool for detecting the macular function. |
