Objective: To investigate the effects of cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT)on negative mood and immune function in adolescent children with cancer, and to further clarify whether there is a correlation between psychological mood and immunity in adolescent cancer patients in order to provide an evidence for psychoneuroimmunology intervention strategy. Methods: Convenience sampling method was used to select 84 children with cancer who met related criteria, and after being matched for type of cancer, stage, chemotherapy regimens and age, they were divided into CBT group and control group according to their preference, with 42 patients in each group. The patients in the control group were given routine psychological care, and those in treatment group were given CBT on the basis of routine psychological care. Before and five weeks after intervention,depression-anxiety-stress scale(DASS)and peripheral blood lymphocyte content(PBLC)were used to evaluate negative mood and immune function, and the results were compared and analyzed by SPSS 22.0 software. The percentage, median, quartile spacing and standard deviation were used to describe the statistics, while Chi-square test,Mann-Whitney U rank sum test and paired t test were used to tatistical inference and the test level was 0.05.Results: Before intervention, there were no difference in the scores of depression, anxiety, stress between the two groups(all P>0.05).Among them, depression and stress were mild, while anxiety was moderate. The incidence of depression, anxiety and stress in included subjects were 25.0%,50% and 21.6% respectively. Also, there were no statistically difference in the content of peripheral blood lymphocyte in two groups.Except for CD8,the content of CD3,CD4,CD4/CD8,NKC and BC were mainly decreased. After intervention, the negative mood scores of depression, anxiety, stress of the CBT group were statistically significant lower than before intervention and the control group(all P<0.05),and negative mood scores in different age groups showed no significant difference(all P>0.05).Meanwhile,the content of NKC in peripheral blood of adolescent cancer patients in CBT group was significantly higher than before intervention and the control group(all P<0.05),while there were no significant difference on negative mood scores and content of peripheral blood lymphocyte in the control group before and after intervention(all P>0.05).Conclusion: CBT can effectively alleviate anxiety, depression, stress by correcting children’s distorted perception of cancer events and relax training, promote the increase of NK cell content, and thus may play an important role in improving immune regulation capability and prognosis, which indicate that there may be a link between mood, immunity and cancer in adolescent cancer patients, but the mechanism of its occurrence and development needs to be further studied.
