Mandarin lexical tone plays an ideographic role, needing more temporal cues.Studies have shown that temporal fine structure(TFS)plays a crucial role in the perception of lexical tone. The defect of lexical tone perception is one of the problems that CI children need to solve.Bimodal as a method to improve the tone perception ability of CI children is effective, because the hearing aid provides more TFS.This study uses Auditory Chimaera to verify this conjecture. The main research contents are as follows:1.Realization of Chimaera and Verification of adults' perception with temporal cues of lexical toneThe Chimaera mainly extracts the temporal cues into temporal envelope(E)and temporal fine structure(TFS),and then crossover the E and TFS.Chimaera can be used to explore the ability of temporal cues perception. The program uses MATLAB.The experiment of healthy adults confirmed the effectiveness of the Chimaera. The results show that the average recognition is 89.25%.This result is consistent with the results reported by the others.2.Study on Lexical Tone Perception of Hearing-impaired Children with Bimodal Fitting Based on ChimaeraThrough the lexical tone recognition test processed by the Chimaera, the perception of the temporal cues in lexical tone of the hearing impaired children in different hearing modes is explored.Hearing-impaired children rely more on TFS to identify lexical tone, the recognition rate of bimodal improved by 13.98% in quite(p<0.01).Under noise, the recognition rate of bimodal improved by 16.47%(p<0.01).So,Bimodal can provide more available TFS for hearing-impaired children,no matter which kind of the background conditions. Then, this study explores whether the improvement of the ability to use TFS of bimodal make contribution to the ability of lexical tone recognition for hearing-impaired children. The results found that the tone recognition ability of bimodal under noise was 13.56%(p<0.01)compared with that of the CI,and the improvement was close to that of the TFS.Therefore,it is speculated that the hearing-impaired children have improved the lexical tone recognition ability through the TFS obtained by the bimodal. In addition, the study also found that bimodal only improved the ability of hearing-impaired children to recognize female tones(p<0.05);and CI children tends to use E to recognize male tones, but use TFS to recognize female tones;Pearson correlation tests show that bimodal are also moderately correlated between the improvement of TFS and the ability to recognize female voices(r= 0.646,p<0.01).It is suggested that hearing-impaired children's recognition of female voices is more dependent on TFS.The innovations: 1.This study realized the Chimaera, which was applied to the field of bimodal children's ability of Mandarin lexical tone perception.2.Based on the Chimaera, the advantage of bimodal in tone perception is derived from the fact that the hearing aid provides more TFS,which provides strong evidence for the clinical promotion of bimodal.3.The effects of quiet and noise conditions on using temporal cues to percept lexical tone of the bimodal children are explored. It is found that bimodal under noise can still provide more useful TFS for the hearing-impaired children,in order to improve the perception of lexical tone of the hearing-impaired children.
