Objective:To study the changes of IL-6 and its association with age during perioperative period of oral and maxillofacial surgery under general anesthesia in different age groups. Methods : 97 patients with oral and maxillofacial surgery who underwent general anesthesia were divided into four groups according to their age: 14 children and adolescents;23 young people;35 middle-aged people;and 25 old people.Serum levels of IL-6 were measured before and 1 and 3 days after operation, and wound healing was observed.Results:IL-6 levels in all age groups were generally higher after operation than before, and peaked on the first day after operation and decreased on the third day after operation, but still higher than before.Except for the children and adolescents group, the levels of IL-6 in the other three groups increased with age in the same period. The expression of IL-6 in older patients was higher than that in younger patients. The wound healing rate in the elderly group was lower than that in the other groups. Conclusions : 1.The level of IL-6 increased after general anesthesia, which was most significant on the 1st day after operation and tended to be normal on the 3rd day after operation, but still higher than that before operation.2.The expression of IL-6 is correlated with age,and the expression of IL-6 in elderly patients is higher than that in young patients.
