Objective: To assess the effects of maxillary protraction using facemask and the correlation between these effects and quantitative cervical vertebral maturation(QCVM).Methods: A total of 35 patients(16 boys,19 girls, mean age: 9.9 years)treated by maxillary protraction in the Stomatology Hospital of the CMU from were selected in this study.Lateral cephalograms were taken before and after treatment.Skeletal and dental variables were measured, and paired t-test and the multiple-regression analysis were performed. And then discuss the differences among the individuals according to the vertebral measurements. Results: There were no significant differences in A-X,ANS-X and B-Y,but significant increases occurred in the other measurements, such as SNA,SNB,and AX(P<0.01).H4/W4 had a significantly negative influence on the change in AY(P<0.05).Conclusions: The facemask therapy shows a favorable change in maxillary advancement, and among the variables of QCVM,H4/W4 has a significant negative effect on the effect of maxillary protraction. The skeletal change is ideal with a H4/W4 less than 0.5843.
