Treatise on Febrile Disease and Synopsis of Golden Chamber written by Zhang Zhongjing are the first complete classical traditional Chinese medicine works on the theory and medical treatment of pain in terms of diagnosis,method,prescription and drug.This paper will profoundly study the differential treatment methods and prescriptions of pain in these two books so as to improve clinic treatment effect.Object:on the basis of summary and analysis of pain-related diagnosis and treatment theories and prescriptions in Treatise on Febrile Disease and Synopsis of Golden Chamber,the paper aims to discuss the treatment prescriptions of pain and their repercussions for follow-up medical development.Method:by means of literature research and collection,the paper will tap into the differential treatment methods,treatment theories and prescriptions and drug use of pain in Treatise on Febrile Disease and Synopsis of Golden Chamber.In chapter one of the first part,the paper summarizes the symptoms and body parts of pain in Treatise on Febrile Disease and Synopsis of Golden Chamber.And then it concludes the prescriptions of pain separately,which involves body parts including head,whole body,chest,bone,lateral thorax,lower chambers of heart,abdomen,private parts,nodules,throat,waist and heart.It is evident that the pains mentioned in the book involve many body parts,especially stomachache,body pain,headache and chest pain.In chapter two,the paper analyzes the nature of pain in Treatise on Febrile Disease and Synopsis of Golden Chamber,and studies the significance of Zhang Zhongjing’s description of pains,such as "continuous pain in stomach","intermittent piercing pain" and "body pain as if beaten by a stick".In chapter three,we analyze Zhang Zhongjing’s differential diagnosis on the eight principal syndromes,viscera and meridians and collaterals,qi and blood,phlegm and retained fluid.In part two,we emphasize on the characteristics of prescriptions for pain treatment in Treatise on Febrile Disease and Synopsis of Golden Chamber.First,we calculate Zhang Zhongjing’s prescriptions of pain treatment and summarize in different body parts.It turns out that the prescriptions of stomachache outnumber others.Second,we conclude the prescriptions on sporadic pain treatment in respect to the eight principal syndromes.In chapter three,by "add and subtract" of the original text in Treatise on Febrile Disease and Synopsis of Golden Chamber,and by comparison of analogous prescriptions,we summarize the indication and evidence of Zhang Zhongjing’s common use of Chinese herbal medicine in clinical pain treatment.In chapter four,the paper argues the how follow-up medical treatment apply prescriptions in Treatise on Febrile Disease and Synopsis of Golden Chamber for pain treatment.With the follow-up examples of treating headache and migraine headache during menstruation by use of Xiao Chaihu Tang and treating gynecologic stomachache with Chinese angelica and peony powder,we can see Zhang Zhongjing’s differential treatment theories have profound repercussions on pain killers in modern medical treatment.In all,in follow-up treatment,we can combine modern prescriptions with Zhang Zhongjing’s methods and theories on pain treatment to gain better clinical treatment effect in pain-related diseases.
