Objective To evaluate the characteristics of Diabetic Retinopathy(DR)in the Diabetes Mellitus(DM)in Inner Mongolia.Methods.Methods The research object comes from two representative cities in midwestern Inner Mongolia.Persons included 517 cases of Han nationality,68 cases of Mongolian, and 15 cases of other minorities.A total of 600 patients was treated in the endocrinology department. After informed consent collect patients' medical history, the laboratory examination, the eye examination, and the questionnaire survey.Retinal photographs were graded for the presence and severity of DR using Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study(ETDRS)classification system and analysis of risk factors related to diabetic retinopathy. Results Results of the 600 subjects, the overall age-standardized prevalence(95%confidence interval,CI)was 33.74%(33.06-34.43)for any DR,8.61%(8.20-9.01)for DME,8.00%(7.61-8.40)for CSME,and 9.27%(8.85-9.69)for VTDR.The prevalence of DR in DM patients in the affiliated hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University in Hohhot is higher and more severe than that in Ejin Banner Mongolia Medical Hospital.High prevalence and seriousness of ethnic minorities. The highest prevalence of PDR in Mongolians is 5.15%(4.83-5.46).However,there is no statistically significant difference in prevalence among different ethnic groups in this study.Independent risk factors for any DR were diabetes duration, serum glucose, hypertension, diabetic kidney disease(DKD)and therapy.Independent risk factors for DME and VTDR were diabetes duration,DKD,tumor and income. Conclusion This study analyzed the prevalence characteristics and ethnic differences of DR in midwestern cities of Inner Mongolia, and contributed data to further study of DR in Inner Mongolia in northern China.
