Objective By evaluating Glazer’s Pelvic floor surface electromyography to assess defecation and urination in patients with spinal cord injury, and to observe the effect of acupuncture on defecation and urination dysfunction in patients with spinal cord injury.Method From January 2019 to October 2019,patients with defecation and urinary dysfunction after spinal cord injury at Fuzhou Second Hospital were selected.According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria,64 cases were selected and divided into control groups according to the random number table method(n = 32)and observation group(n = 32).Both groups received conventional therapy(including pelvic floor muscle functional exercise and biofeedback therapy).Acupuncture therapy was added to conventional therapy in the observation group for a total of 8 weeks.they were assessed with Glazer pelvic floor surface electromyography, bladder residual urine volume, questionnaire survey on international data set of intestinal function of spinal cord injury and international spinal cord injury lower urinary tract function data set questionnaire before and after 8weeks treatment.Result After treatment, the Flick-Max and Edu-Mean in the two groups were significantly higher than before treatment(P <0.05);the improvement of Flick-Max in the observation group was better than that in the control group(P <0.01).Bladder urine residue in both groups was significantly reduced after treatment(P <0.01),and the observation group was better than the control group(P <0.01)The results of the questionnaire survey suggest that after treatment, the urination, urinary symptoms, and bladder emptying in the observation group were significantly improved than before treatment(P <0.01),and urination and urinary symptoms in the control group were improved(P <0.01).After treatment, observation group’s urination, urinary symptoms, and bladder emptying were better than those in the control group(P <0.05,P <0.01),and urinary incontinence was comparable in the two groups(P> 0.05).After treatment, the observation group’s bowel sensation, frequency of bowel incontinence, and average bowel movement time were improved compared with those before treatment, and the differences were significant(P <0.01).The results of the investigation in the control group were improved compared with before treatment, but the difference was not statistically significant(P> 0.05).Comparing the observation group with the control group, there was no statistically significant difference in survey results such as bowel sensation, frequency of stool incontinence, and average bowel time(P> 0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture therapy combined with biofeedback electrical stimulation therapy and pelvic floor muscle function exercise can promote the growth of pelvic floor muscle strength and endurance and improve the bowel function of patients with spinal cord injury.
