Objective: To explore the effect of sequential treatment and combination treatment with steroid in patients with sudden deafness of flat type. Methods: Sixty patients with sudden deafness of flat type who were treated at the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from July 2019 to January 2020 were divided into two groups. In group A(sequential treatment group),prednisone tablets 1mg/Kg was used for 5days.At one week, those patients with poor outcomes were treated further with intratympanic methylprednisolone 40 mg once every other day for five times. In group B(combination treatment group),patients were treated with prednisone tablets 1mg/kg for 5 days combined with intratympanic methylprednisolone 40 mg every other day for five times. The medications besides steroid were same in both groups. The hearing regain, effective rate, cure rate, and hearing regain at each frequency were compared between two groups. Results: The average hearing regains in group A were17.38±20.48 dBHL,24.29±19.65 dBHL,the effective rates were 55.56%,74.07%,and the cure rates were 18.52%,40.74% at one week and discharge. The hearing regains in group B were 15.94±23.55 dBHL,24.02±21.06 dBHL,the effective rates were 62.5%,66.67%,and the cure rates were 20.83%,37.50% at one week and discharge. There was no statistical difference in each index between two groups. Conclusions: For patients with sudden deafness of flat type, the outcome of sequential treatment is equivalent to that of combination treatment. The advantages of sequential treatment over combination treatment include avoidance of unnecessary intratympanic injection and thus better cost-effectiveness.
