Objective:Serum 1,5-anhydroglucitol(1,5-AG)is a new biomarker of diabetic patients to monitor blood glucose, which can reflect the mean glucose level within 3 to 7 days. This article aims to explore the factors affecting serum 1,5-AG levels in Chinese adults with normal glucose tolerance. Methods:This research investigated 7689 cases of urban and rural residents in Jiangsu Province,China. The age and sex of the participants were registered. The height, weight, waist circumference and hip circumference of the participants were measured. The fasting blood glucose, urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, serum uric acid, blood lipids, serum 1,5AG,glycated hemoglobin, glycated albumin were detected.Body mass index(BMI),waist-to-hip ratio, and glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)were calculated. Each participant received 75g oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT),and 2-h plasma glucose was measured 2 hours after oral glucose.According to the 1999 WHO Diabetes Diagnostic Criteria,4,500 subjects with normal glucose tolerance were eventually included.Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS23.0 software.Normality test was performed on all data.Differences between the two groups were compared by independent sample T test or Mann-Whitney U test.One-way ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis H test was used to compare differences between groups.Simple correlation analysis, partial correlation analysis and multivariate linear regression analysis were used to analyze correlations.P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results:1.Serum 1,5-AG was positively correlated with age(standardβ=0.146,P<0.001 in male;standardβ=0.071,P=0.012 in female);further subgroup analysis found that regardless of gender, serum 1,5-AG levels decreased with age between 18 and 42 years, while increased with age in people aged 43-65 years, and the correlation between serum 1,5-AG and age was similar to a V-shaped curve(both P for trend<0.001).2.Serum 1,5-AG levels was negatively related to BMI(standardβ=-0.145,P<0.001 in male;standardβ=-0.141,P<0.001 in female);According to the BMI stratification analysis, serum 1,5-AG decreased with the increase of BMI in female(P for trend=0.005),and the same trend was observed in males, but the difference between the groups was not statistically significant(P for trend=0.126).3.Serum 1,5-AG was positively associated with serum uric acid(standardβ=0.212,P<0.001 in male;standardβ=0.158,P<0.001 in female). The positive association still existed after adjusting of age, blood pressure,BMI,waist-to-hip ratio, blood lipids, glycemic indicators, blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine and eGFR(r=0.185,P<0.001 in male;r=0.133,P<0.001in female).4.Serum 1,5-AG was negatively correlated with eGFR(standardβ=-0.145,P<0.001 in male;standardβ=-0.141,P<0.001 in male).Further stratification analysis found that there was a negative correlation between serum 1,5-AG and estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)in men whose eGFR≥120mL/min/1.73m~2(r=-0.248,P<0.001)and in women whose eGFR≥90mL/min/1.73m~2(r=-0.123,P<0.001),especially whose eGFR≥120mL/min/1.73m~2(r=-0.169,P<0.001).Conclusion:In Chinese adults with normal glucose tolerance, the relationship between serum 1,5-AG and age liked the V-shaped curve.serum 1,5-AG was negatively associated with BMI,while positively and independently correlated with serum uric acid. There existed a negative correlation between serum 1,5-AG and eGFR especially in men whose eGFR≥120mL/min/1.73m~2 and in women whose eGFR≥90mL/min/1.73m~2..
