Objective:To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of topical 2%carteolol hydrochloride drops in the therapy of low-medium risk, superficial and proliferative infantile hemangioma.Method:The clinical data of 80 infantile hemangiomas using topical 2%cartenolol eye drops were analysed.94 skin lesions were compared by self-control study. The treatment efficacy were documented after 1,3 and 6 month of medication and the local and systemic adverse reactions were evaluated.Result:80 infants with infantile hemangioma were recruited, including 32 boys patients(32/80)and 48 girls patients(48/80,60%),the proportion of boys and girls was1:1.5.The age range at first visit was from 1 to 6 months, the median age was 2.9(2.4,5.0)months.At first visit,44 patients(44/88,55%)were under 3 months, and 36patients(36/88,45%)were between 3 and 6 months.Among them, two patients had a history of atopic dermatitis. There were 94 lesions from 80 patients enrolled,The locations were 45 on head and neck(45/94,47.87%),27 on trunk(27/94,28.72%)and 22on limbs(22/94,23.40%).There were 71 cases with single lesion(71/80,88.75%)and 9cases with multiple lesions(≥2)(9/80,11.25%).The size of lesion was ranged from 0.2 to8cm~2.After the treatment of 1 month,3 months and 6 months, the effective rate of skin lesions subsided was 21.27%(20/94),76.59%(72/94)and 86.17%(81/94),respectively.The therapeutic effect among different treatment courses was statistically significant(P<0.001).The effective rate after medication was gradually increased. An obvious correlation was found between the course of treatment and efficacy(R=0.594,P<0.001).The longer the course, the better the effectiveness. There was no statistical significance between different age groups, locations and efficacy, respectively P>0.05).The total rate of adverse reactions in 80 patients was 3.75%(3/80),all of which occurred local eczema,in total 3 cases,of which 2 cases occurred 1 month after medication and with a history of atopic dermatitis,1 case appeared 3 months after medication,no other systemic adverse reactions was observed. The rate of eczema in each course of treatment was not statistically significant(P>0.05),and did not increase with the extension of treatment. Conclusion:Topical 2%carteolol hydrochloride drops is an effective therapy for low-medium risk, superficial proliferative infantile hemangioma.Eczema is the common adverse reaction but does not affect the results with appropriate control.System adverse reaction rarely occurred during long term use, with the prolong ation of the medication time, the curative effect increases, and it can be usedas a treatment option for infantile hemangioma.
