Enhancement Of Invisible Physiologic Hand Tremor In The Subjects With White Matter Changes

Objective To evaluate whether the physiologic hand tremor increases in the subjects with white matter changes(WMC).Methods This study included 176 inpatients without visible hand tremor,acute ischemic stroke,hyperthyroidism and known Parkinson’s syndrome.WMC was diagnosed with magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)of brain and the volume of WMC was assessed with the assistant of computer software.According to the volume of WMC,four grades of 0-3 were created.Hand movement was assessed with a computer assistant system,which could continuously record the track of the light point from a red laser pointer hold by the participants.Based on the track,the 85% distance,the average distance and the frequency of hand movement were automatically reported.The average of these parameters of both hands were used for analysis for the relationship between WMC and the hand movement profile.Results The grade 3 group(3.16±1.39 mm,p<0.05)had significantly higher 85% distance against the grade 0(2.21±0.50 mm),grade 1(2.47±0.55 mm)and grade 2(2.57±0.77 mm),respectively.Meanwhile,similar results were found for the average distance in the grade 3(1.95±0.86 vs 1.36±0.32 mm,1.95±0.86 vs 1.55±0.35 mm,1.95±0.86 vs 1.60±0.47 mm p<0.05)against the grade 0,grade 1 and grade 2 group,respectively.Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the WMC volume was a positive independent risk factor for the 85% distance(b=0.308,P<0.001)and average distance(b=0.298,P<0.001)Conclusion1.Hand tremor distance was increased as the rise of WMC in the patients without invisible hand tremor.And we found that the patients with the more severe WMC,the increased distance was larger.2.The increased distance in hand tremor had no statistically significant with the history of hypertension,systolic blood pressure,diastolic blood pressure and heart rate.3.The increased in body mass index was a negative point with hand tremor,so increasing the body mass index properly may help reduce the occurrence of hand tremor,which may reduce the distance of hand tremor.
