| The E-C translation task of Germany Drives East was entrusted by Patton Ivan.The source text,written by former British Prime Minister Churchill,was a memoir of the Second World War.The task was received on the April,2015.Lasted three months,the author completed two chapters of the books whose names were The Mediterranean War and Conquest of the Italian Empire.The vocabulary of translation task was over 12,500 words.The source text is a masterpiece whose reflection on the Second World War had won the Nobel Prize in literature.By presenting a great deal of real historical data,this work had reproduced the war scene,so that people can reflect on the history through the war and cherish peace.Therefore,such a work is full of important educational significance,which has exerted earth-shaking effect in the literary world.Churchill’s language which was overflowing with vivid emotion,appeal and charisma presents one of the major features of the source text.It’s a great challenge in the translation process on how to make it successfully reappear in the translation version.The author conducted the translation practice with Skopos theory as the guidance.In accordance to the four principles,the Skopos rule,intratextual coherence,intertextual coherence and cultural particularity,the translation process was analyzed in detail from perspective of translation strategy and quality controlled.After reading,understanding and analyzing the source text,the translator applied the translation strategies of domestication and foreignization respectively in the light of different situations.In the first part of case analysis,the translation method with meaning annotation has been adopted to analyze that the translation for weapons conforms to the rules in Skopos theory.In the second part,some translation methods such as splitting method on how to solve the long and difficult sentence,reconstruction method,original order translation method as well as order changing translation method have been concerned so as to achieve the consistency in the text.When it came to the third part,translation technique of four-character structure was skillfully employed so that sense of age existing in historical events will be demonstrated,and the distinctive language features of the source text will be reproduced so as to achieve interlingual coherence between the source text and the translation.The Forth part expounded the particularity of culture in a typical case.With the theory as guidance for the translation practice,the present author tries to realize result of serving target audience by testing the translation behavior with such a rule of Skopos theory. |
