E-C Translation Of Chapter 2 And Chapter 3 Of From Within The Frame:Storytelling In African-american Fiction

The source text is excerpted from From Within the Fame:Storytelling in African-American Fiction,which was written by Bertram D.Ashe and was published in Routledge in 2002.And this is a translation project from English into Chinese,together with a critical commentary.This original text,including six chapters which respectively expound six writers’ works,explores the development of the African-American "frame text" that is a kind of narrative strategy,and analyzes the relationship between the author,narrator,listener and reader.The selected part includes Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 of this original text.Chapter 2,entitled "’Ah don’t mean to bother wid tellin’ ’em nothin’"-Zora Neale Hurston’s Critique of the Storytelling Aesthetic in Their Eyes Were Watching God,mainly analyses how the heroine,Janie,gradually finds her position and finally controls storytelling aesthetic through her growing experiences.Chapter 3,entitled "Listening to the Blues"—Ralph Ellison’s Trueblood Episode in Invisible Man,focuses on a story about Trueblood who is a character in Invisible Man.This part is a start for the hero to reconsider himself and to find a new way for his life.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation,this translated version is well accomplished by using varied translation techniques,such as following the syntactic order,semantic extension,conversion and so on.Because the African-American literature has become a hot topic at home and abroad,research in this field is meaningful.Based on the searches via Baidu,Google,Yahoo and so on,it is found that the original text is not translated.And this translation aims to introduce the African-American literature to the target readers,and puts vernacular English and special narrative structure(framework novels)together to show a more comprehensive situation of African-American literature to readers.
