| Abstract is a vital part of an academic article.A prepared abstract explicitly summarizes the contents of the article,help readers to identify whether it’s worthwhile to read the whole article and facilitates the use of document retrieval.English abstract promotes academic communication and transmission of knowledge the world over.Chinese and foreign researchers have conducted many researches on the quality of s from different perspectives,which has extremely proved the quality of abstract translation.However,most researchers are mainly focused on the practical translation problems for the usage of words,sentences and grammar.There has been no systematic research on the translation of abstracts based on discourse analysis.The paper analyzes the field,mode and tenor of English academic abstracts from the perspective of discourse analysis,and generates the discourse features and language signals which constrain Meta-functions.After studying ISO 214-1976(E)and GB6447-86,we discover three characteristics owned by both Chinese abstracts and English ones.Therefore,we construct the related translation strategies which guides translators how to render professional terms precisely,make accurate choices on voice,mood and modality,and keep patterns of thematic progression of source text in view of the attitude of original author.We conclude that the key to measure the quality of abstract translation is to see whether the translation achieves the Meta-functions of source text equivalently.We hope the current research can improve translators’ ability to analyze discourse and enhance the quality of abstract translation,so as to accelerate the progress of internationalization of Chinese academic.Meanwhile,the findings may bring a lot of benefits in English writing and translation teaching practices,which has an instructive significance for English teaching,... |
