| Dialogue plays an important role in literary works,which is communicative,sociocultural and colloquial.Dialogue plays an important role in showing personal characters and mental world of the protagonists,making the readers feel as if they were personally on the scene,and promoting the development of the plot.When translating literary works,translators are supposed to pay attention to the dialogues of different individuals as well as the dialogues of one protagonist in different contexts.Too Big to Fail by Andrew Ross Sorkin has been adapted from a 500-hour interview with more than 200 people who personally experienced the 2008 financial crisis in America,including American major supervision institutes and investment banks.Different from other financial works,Too Big to Fail,seldom referring to professional financial knowledge,has reproduced the first scene with a strong rhythm.In the book,dialogues have successfully strengthened the sense of tension.The pragmatics as a theory of linguistic adaptation or adaptability was put forward by Verschueren in 1999 and emphasized that language using was a process of making language choices based on both external and internal elements under different degrees of consciousness.This paper will study the dialogues in Too Big to Fail from the perspective of linguistic adaptation and will mainly discuss the dynamic adaptation to the communicative context(the mental world,the social world and the physical world)and communicating parties(utterer and interpreter)during dialogue translation.Through analyzing the dialogue translation in Too Big to Fail,this paper will prove the practicability and rationality of adaptation theory in dialogue translation and provide some suggestions.Combining the adaptation theory and dialogue translation will help readers better understand the works,its characters and plots,and provide some research thoughts for translation of documentary works in the future. |
