An Ultrasonic Experiment Study On Vocal Cords Movement Of Lax Vowels And Tense Vowels In Yi Language

Lax vowels and tense vowels are the key issues in the study of Yi phonics.This study in lax vowels and tense vowels,which is using the ultrasounds record method,will help to understand the different feature on physiological manifestations of them and their produce.In this study,the native dialect "na53su33" in Weishau County of Guizhou Province was taken as the research object.Ultrasound will be used to record the vocal cords movement and focus on the data,which will be meticulously analyzed the glottic physiology features of diffrent vowels and glottic movement data,to explore the related reason of vowels produce;compare the differences of vowels in the glottis movement trend and combine with the software Origin,to discuss the relationship between produce of vowels and physiological characteristics.After a field research,we found that there are 14 of lax vowels and tense vowels in the Wusa dialect in the 9th and 10th districts of Weining:[e],[?],[u],[?],[?],[(?)],[a],[e],[?],[u],[?],[?],[(?)],[a].Using the praat drew the vowels pattern,found that the tense front vowels in the up and left range of vowel[i],as for back vowels except the tense vowel[u]others are in the right and down range of the original vowels.Therefore,the tense vowel of front vowels are aheader and the tense vowels of back vowels are later.For the study of lax vowels and tense vowels,there are a lot of people using the experimental phonics way,with the extraction of related data then study of the characteristics of these vowels.With the development of technology,the Electroglottography or laryngoscope is aslo used to observe Vocal cords movement during pronunciation.The difference between the them is that Electroglottography collect the bioelectric signal to react the vocal cords movement,while the laryngoscope is the fiberoscope from the nasal cavity inserted into it with a camera fiber hose,through the epiglottis above the vocal cords collecting the movement.Although both of them can collect vocal cords movement data,they have their own deficiencies.In this study,kinetic energy of vocal cords will be a new method of the comparing and analyzing in lax vowels and tense vowels,so that the energy of vowels can be clearly reflected during movement.The difference of energy between the two kinds of vowels can reflect the difference tension between the muscular and ligaments which allows researchers to study the phonetic physiology of vowels from the view of physiological vocalization.
