This thesis focuses on the blacks’ identity consciousness of Toni Morrison’ s trilogy,Beloved,Jazz and Paradise;and analyzes the evolution of their identity consciousness from the perspective of diaspora via its three typical features:Marginalization,Homeland Bond and Hybridity.Through the discussion of this thesis,a conclusion could be drawn that the identity consciousness of the blacks develops with the time passing by.Therefore, the Afro-Americans form a type of developmental identity consciousness confronted with different identical plights at different periods in their century-old history. This thesis consists of 4 parts in total. The first chapter is the basic introduction of Toni Morrison and her works, the purpose and significance of this study, and theory of diaspora. The second chapter makes a revision of Morrison’s fictions at home and abroad and points out the creativeness of this thesis. The third chapter makes a respective analysis on the identity consciousness of black people in Beloved,Jazz and Paradise combined with the features of diaspora-Marginalization,Homeland Bond and Hybridity;and investigates its development in different periods of time, which starts from regaining freedom in the beginning period of emancipation to the construction of identity of being an African black in Harlem Renaissance and to embracing hybridity of being an Afro-American in the end.The last part draws a conclusion of this thesis:the Afro-Americans can healthily live in the new Continent only by bravely facing their history and living as Afro-Americans.
