A Practice Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Non-Finite Verbs In Introduction Of Bohlerstrip Cutting Rules

Product instruction is a part of the practical scientific writing style.In order to obtain clearness,conciseness and exactness in its expression,non-predicate verb structures are widely applied to replace attributive and adverbial clauses in English product instructions.There is no corresponding expression with equal function in Chinese.How to achieve effective translation is a problem that the translator needs to solve.This report is a Chinese-English translation proj ect about Introduction of Bohlerstrip Cutting Rules,In the process of translating the task text,the author finds that non-predicate verbs appear in high frequency and run through the whole text.In this translation practice,the author analyzes and summarizes the non-predicate verbs appearing in the text under the direction of Nida’s classification of word’s meaning,trying to explore the translation methods of these words in different semantic categories.Translation methods may be employed including amplification,omission,reconstruction,semantic extension and semantic compensation,etc.
