| This paper is a report on the translation methods of adverbial clauses in Australian National SAR Manual.Under the guidance of functional equivalence, the report sums up six translation methods of adverbial clauses in combination with translation issues. When dealing with the differences in the position of adverbial clauses in English and Chinese, the order of the main clause and subordinate clause can be adjusted according to the expression order in Chinese,or the sequence of the entire sentence can be broken and rearranged. Therefore, the author sums up three methods:original ordering, reversing and order changing. As for the connectives, conversion can be adopted in translation, that is to discover the extension of the connectives and translate one type of adverbial clause into according to the logical relations to make translation smooth.Division and Combination can be used in the translation of long and complex clauses. As Chinese prefers short sentences, when translating long clauses, division can be used to separate the adverbial clause from the main clause to make the translation hierarchical and simple; When there are repetitive contents both in main and adverbial clauses, combination can be used to make content tight and avoid verbose expressions. This translation practice through these six methods is supposed to make translation smooth and natural and reproduce the original content and style to a large extent. Also the author hopes this report can be a reference for the later translation of maritime search and rescue materials. |
